History of Verandah House

We understand that Verandah House was the home of the Prentice family until sometime after the Second World War. The Prentice family had extensive milling and industrial connections with the area. (The Bosch site was once the site of the Gun cotton factories, which exploded with devastating results in 1871).

The Prentice and Munton families joined forces in the agricultural and chemical supply industries and eventually became Fisons Agricultural with various spin off companies which became world famous in their own right. British nylon spinners – Courtaulds – and even mighty ICI can trace some of their origins back to this house.

We have 6 photographs in reception dated 1890 of the garden and the Verandah.

Please enjoy your stay in this historic and comfortable Silver 4 star Guest House.
